A Complete Reimagination—From Bones to Beauty
This project came to me mid-construction—the space had already been gutted, and the real work was turning a blank slate into something cohesive, intentional, and deeply livable.
The challenges were significant. Soffit restrictions limited ceiling height, the fireplace lacked presence, the existing oak floors needed rehabilitation, and the transition between the entry, living, dining, and family rooms felt disconnected—a remnant of a previous tile layout that had never quite worked.
The solution was layered, both literally and visually. A custom tray ceiling transformed the height limitation into a design feature, drawing the eye upward with integrated uplighting and a striking decorative fixture. The fireplace became the undisputed heart of the room—its interior rebuilt in herringbone brick, a detail that echoes the new herringbone oak pattern laid in the hallway, quietly connecting the spaces. Custom open back bookcases were designed to flank the fireplace, and a new travertine stone face gave it the redefined presence it deserved.
A thoughtful lighting plan, floor rehabilitation using the home’s original oak, and the addition of a sophisticated bar in the family room completed the transformation—turning a space full of unanswered questions into one that feels entirely, unmistakably like home.
